I don’t hear what he’s saying, I just watch him talking, and instead of his dark beauty, I see his eyes: they’re filled with fear. He sees that I’m seeing him and he stops talking, but I recover, pretend I’m listening. He says he thinks maybe he can use the engine to charge up the radio and try to make contact with passing ships, or something like that. I say it wasn’t the wind that did us in. He doesn’t seem to have heard me.
